60 Minutes aired a piece on a practice known as "aid-in-dying." The practice, also known by supporters as "death with dignity" and "assisted suicide" by opponents, is legal in Oregon, Washington, Vermont, California and Montana. It involves a terminally ill patient taking a lethal dose of medication by themselves on their own accord. This is different from euthanasia (which is illegal in 50 states) where a doctor gives a patient a lethal injection. Supporters hope that "aid-in-dying" laws will be adopted in more states.
