Former WNBA star and San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is the first woman to be a head coach in the NBA Summer League. Her work has impressed Spurs coach Gregg Popovich who thinks the NBA is ready for a female head coach. Former New York Knicks star and current associate head coach of the Charlotte Hornets Patrick Ewing and current has been an assistant coach for almost as long as he played in the NBA team. He has received a lot of praise for his coaching, leaving his supporters (including his boss Hornets head coach Steve Clifford) confused about why Ewing has not been given the position of head coach yet while people like Jason Kidd and Derek Fisher have each gotten head coaching jobs immediately after retiring from playing.
